The Happiness Hunt
The Happiness Hunt is connecting primary schools and care homes in Mendip through creative exchanges exploring the idea and concept of happiness and kindness – what makes us happy and how we can use creativity to help inspire happiness in others.
The project is currently working with five care homes and primary schools across Shepton Mallet, Wells, Glastonbury and Frome and has been created by Make the Sunshine CiC.
Each participating group has been sent a happiness box full of creative prompts, craft materials, props and creative challenges.
Primary students and residents will complete a wide range of creative challenges: from writing poetry to making puppets, performing as happiness chefs to illustration – once completed these will be shared with their new creative pen-friends.
As well as creative exchanges the project aims to bring people together through videos and online communication. There will be a range of videos from professional artists across the south west as well as shared zoom conversations.
We will then collect boxes and share these with partner settings and repeat the exchange. The idea is to connect the two settings as creative pen-friends and to explore the idea of happiness across the generations, this information will then be documented in a short film sharing the project.
The Happiness Hunt is also supported by Wells Festival of Literature and Somerset Community Foundation.
